Purpose:

To create and maintain a profitable and sustainable Business Unit, specifically for Custom Synthesis for Pharmaceutical, Agrochemical and allied markets in the UK and Ireland.  

The Business Manager will develop long term business relationships with Key Customers. The role holder will create unique and compelling sales propositions for custom synthesis of moelcules, APIs, excipients, and drug delivery systems. 

The Business Manager will investigate Market Authorisations and capitalise on new opportunities to grow their business unit. They will promote opportunities for customers to work with Innovation Services and Manufacturing Services. 

Main Duties

Customer Sales: 

  • Develop ca. 50 Key accounts 

  • Build an opportunity bank of between 100 – 200 opportunities 

  • Create 30 – 50 active sales projects  

  • Drive a minimum £550k gross margin for the business unit 

  • Manage existing accounts portfolio 

  • Establish strong, long-term client relationships 

  • Communicate with major customers on a regular basis and respond to specific queries 

  • Suggest solutions and innovative ideas to meet customer needs 

  • Act as the liaison between key customers and internal teams 

  • Identify and approach new potential strategic customers 

Manufacturer Relationships 

  • Develop relationships with suppliers of all key product groups 

  • Obtain marketing information 

  • Ensure adequate UK stock 

  • Communicate with supplier partners (reports, sales figures, market information, product development) 

  • Cultivate new supplier partners.

Knowledge, Ability and Skills

Knowledge

  • Knowledge of the UK and global pharmaceutical pipeline, specifically in API’s, excipients, drug delivery systems and formulation markets 

  • Educated to degree level or equivalent 

  • Demonstrate sales experience in a B2B environment 

  • Proven experiences as a Business Manager/Account Manager in the Chemical Industry  (Desirable)

Skills and Abilities

  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills 

  • Business acumen to attract and develop new supplier partners 

  • Experience of using CRM software and MS Office 

  • Solution seeking attitude

  • Excellent analytical and organisation skills
