Client Challenge

A UK flooring manufacturer specialising in cold storage facilities and outdoor industrial sites needed an epoxy system that could:

• Cure effectively at low ambient temperatures (below 0°C)
• Maintain mechanical strength and flexibility
• Minimise yellowing and surface defects
• Be applied with minimal downtime

Traditional epoxy systems failed to cure properly or required costly heating solutions, leading to delays and inconsistent results.

Solution: Valysis® Low-Temperature Epoxy System

Lake Coatings proposed a custom formulation using:

• CamCoat® solvent-free epoxy resin ideal for flooring
• Thiocure® polythiols as cross-linking agents to enable low-temperature reactivity
• CamCure® amine curing agent for self-levelling performance
• Optional levelling and rheology additives from the Disparlon® range to enhance flow and surface finish

This combination was selected for its ability to:

• Cure at temperatures as low as -5°C
• Deliver high flexibility and reduced yellowing
• Provide excellent adhesion and chemical resistance

Implementation & Testing

The system was tested in Lake Coatings’ R&D lab under simulated cold conditions:

• Cure time: 12–16 hours at -5°C
• Shore D hardness: >75 after 24 hours
• No surface blush or tackiness
• Maintained chemical resistance to selected alcohols, acids, and alkalis

The client conducted a pilot application in a refrigerated warehouse. The system performed flawlessly, with no curing delays or surface defects.
